Advent - Day 8

Dear Friends,

Saturday night I was asked to write a monologue, from the perspective of a Christmas angel, for our church's Christmas Eve celebration. Sunday's Advent devotional (by Mary Brack) at His Kingdom Come just happened to be about the scene where the angels appeared to the shepherds in the field. (Luke 2:8-14) What great inspiration for my fiction piece. I wish I could share it with you, but it wouldn't be fair to do that before our service on Christmas Eve.

Here is what I did for Day 8 of my Advent journal:
After applying a thin layer of Gesso to both pages, I added ultramarine blue acrylic paint on both sides, thicker on the left. I pressed one side of my Swiss dot embossing folder into the wet paint on the left to give an indication of stars. Using one of my Praise Him stencils (available at the Faithart Shoppe) as a starting point, I painted an angel on the left page. Yes, I know it kind of looks like a bird, but I like that. With my gold gel pen I wrote, "Fear not. I bring good news."
The 'page' on the right is a Christmas card with an embossed scene. With the magic of white acrylic paint, I turned Santa Claus into a shepherd and gave him a few splotchy sheep. With more splotches of white paint I added a multitude of angels at the top.
I stamped the sentiment with VersaMark ink and embossed it with WOW ultra-fine gold powder. I either pushed too hard on the soft stamp or heated the embossing powder too long, but the writing was not very legible. I went over it with an ultra-fine Sharpie marker pen and now it is quite readable.
Oops! I forgot to add my Advent day number. I decided to paste it on the back of my birdy-looking angel.
Thank you for visiting my blog today. I am a day behind in my Advent posts. Hopefully I will get caught up tonight.

Blessing hugs,
Teresa

This is really good, I love the choir of angels and the way you turned Santa into a Shepherd. I hadn't thought of painting over cards - another great idea x
